History

Founded in 1920, Rinnai & Co. first manufactured and sold pressurized oil stoves. By the late 1920s it had already established itself as a trustworthy manufacturer of gas tabletop stoves, gas ovens, gas heaters, and gas hot-water units.

MILESTONES

1920	Incorporated as Rinnai & Co. by founders; Hidejiro Naito, president and Kenkichi Hayashi, president.
1923	Began sales and exports of gas appliances, including tabletop stoves, ranges, gas oven, hot-water units, to domestic gas utilities.
1938	Manufactured aircraft parts as factory supervised by the army.
1946	Resumption of production of gas oil appliances at Reconstructed Head Office factory
1950	Reorganized as a limited company.
1954	Opened Tokyo office.
1958	Formed technological tie-up with German Schwank GmbH and began production and sales of infrared gas burners, and develop stoves and others.
1960	Opened Asahi Factory.
1961	Opened Fukuoka office.
1963	Opened Sapporo and Sendai offices.
1964	Opened Oguchi Factory. Develop Japan’s first-type gas bath-heating units.
1967	Opened Technology Development Center.
1969	Received Japan’s first JIS certificates for gas appliances..
1970	Established Rinnai Taiwan Corporation.
1971	Changed name to Rinnai Corporation. Establish RB Controls Co., Ltd. and Rinnai Australia Pty., Ltd.
1972	Received Ota Award from Japan Gas Association for gas high-speed cooking convection oven.
1973	Established Rinnai (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.
1974	Established Rinnai Korea Corporation and Rinnai America Corporation.
1975	Established Rinnai New Zealand Ltd. and Equipamentos NGK-Rinnai Ltda.
1976	Established Rinnai Industries (UK), Ltd.
1977	Established Rinnai New Zealand Ltd.
1979	Listed on the Second Section of the Nagoya Stock Exchange. Established Rinnai Precision Co., Ltd., and opened Seto Factory.
1981	Established Japan Ceramics Co., Ltd.
1982	Listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Opened training center in Seto Factory.
1983	Opened Hiroshima office. Listed on First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
1984	Received Ota Prize from Japan Gas Association for development of a hot-water heating unit equipped with a safety mechanism to prevent incomplete combustion.
1986	Received Excellent Technology Prize from Japan Gas Association as well as the first Chunichi Industrial Technology Award for the development of an ultra-compact hot-water heating unit.
1988	Established P.T. Rinnai Indonesia. Established Hong Kong Representative Office.
1990	Opened Tuskuba Research Center. Establish Rinnai (Thailand) Co Ltd and Noto Tech Co., Ltd.
1991	Established Rinnai Singapore Pte. Ltd
1993	Established Shanghai Rinnai Co., Ltd.
1994	New head office building completed.
1995	Received ISO 9001 certification for all domestic factories.
1996	Established Rinnai Holdings (Pacific) Pte. Ltd. in Singapore Receive Testing Facility Acceptance from International Approval Services (IAS).
1997	Received ISO 14001 certification for Oguchi Factory and Technology Development Center.
1998	Established Rinnai Vietnam Co., Ltd. and Rinnai Hong Kong Ltd.
1999	Established RG Co., Ltd.
2000	Received Ministry of International Trade and Industry’s Energy Conservation Award for its highly efficient condensing-type gas hot-water appliances. Received ISO 14001 certification for Seto Factory.
2001	Received Technology Prize from Japan Gas Association for its highly efficient condensing-type gas hot-water units.
2003	Received ISO 14001 certification for all domestic factories. Receive Chairman Prize from Energy Conservation Center for glass-top stoves with internal-flame burner.
2005	Technology Prize from Japan Gas Association for condensing-type dual hot-water/heating units “Eco Jozu”.
2006	Established RBS Thermo Technology Co., Ltd. Technology Prize from Japan Gas Association for bathroom heater/dehumidifiers with mist sauna function.
2008	Established Rinnai Italia s.r.l., and opened Integrated Logistics Center. Gas instant-heating hot-water unit sold in the United States received Energy Efficiency Award from the Alliance to Save Energy (ASE). Received ISO 14001 certification for Head Office.
2009	Establish Rinnai Canada Holdings Ltd.
2010	Opened Production Engineering Center
